This is a filipino “beef steak”. This dish is easy, delicious and flavourful dish.  A thinly sliced  marinated beef that is so easy to cook. Kalamansi is the best souring agent for this but the use of lemon is also flavorful. Kalamansi is also known as calamondin or kumquat. For the beef, there is a thinly sliced available, but it to make it more tender you still have to use a meat tenderiser / tenderizer hammer.  


Recipe

Ingredients

250 g beef
1/3 cup of water
1 tbs soy sauce
2 tbs  kalamansi or lemon juice
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp  oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish

1 onion cut into rings
1 – 2 potatoes

Direction

  • Thinly slice the steak into strips.
  • Combine  soy sauce sauce, lemon juice and sugar in a bowl. Set aside. Mix in beef and Marinate for 15-30 minutes.
  • Cut the potatoes thinly and then fry.
  • Heat  oil in a large non-stick fry pan.
  • Cook beef with the marinade on high heat for 8-10 minutes or until the meat is tender.
  • Add the sugar and 1/3 cup of water. Stir occasionally until the sauce is reduced. 
  • Turn heat on low. Simmer and stir occasionally.
  • Add potatoes.
  • Add onion and cook for 1 minute. 

Tips:


Semi-frozen meat is a lot easier to slice, having said that extra care should considered on thawed meat, avoid refreezing thawed meat.

Separate meat in smaller portions to freeze,  then you can only thaw the meat you need.
